Merav Bash
Journal of Orthopedic Oncology has seen tremendous growth in terms of recognition and advancement in recent years. Journal of Orthopedic Oncology focuses on many aspects including on inter disciplinary collaborations and providing platform for publication of relevant research works and clinical studies and reports globally. He journal also aims to supply the foremost relevant and practice based information to each young researcher involved in care of bone, spine and tumors.
Cancers and bone tumors specially require multidisciplinary approach towards managing patients. Orthopedic Oncology as it is termed is not simply a surgical branch but requires inputs from various different faculties including orthopedic oncologist, radiologist, pathologist, medical oncologist, radiation oncologist, pediatric medical oncologist, surgical oncologist, plastic surgeons and micro-vascular surgeons.
He publication by Carolino DKD, et al. from Philippines have stated that cancer in pregnancy is defined as a cancer diagnosed from the First day of childbearing to one year post-partum, estimated to occur 1 in every 1,000 women [1,2]. Due to the relative rarity of the condition, guidelines for management are largely based from small retrospective studies or case series with limited follow-up .
Malignancy during pregnancy is understood to be rare, 1:1000 pregnancies with a reported incidence of 0.07% to 0.1% of malignancies , but with outcomes known to be devastating. Because of the rarity of this occurrence, this has only been the topic of only a few studies thus far . Hence, there has been a scarcity of guidelines regarding the clinical diagnosis and justifying the management of tumors during pregnancy.
In the review of available literature, the most common gestational cancers in terms of its organ of origin are breast and cervical cancer, followed by hematologic malignancies and melanoma [1-3,6], while the incidence of musculoskeletal tumors being comparably lower [3].
Journal of Orthopedic Oncology specially aims to provide a platform where researches all over the world can communicate.
